Sandbox Saga

Recently, the classes at Riley's preschool were reorganized. Children were abruptly moved from one teacher to another, with little or no notice to the parents. Apparently, this caused quite the upset among some parents, a little of which I heard about at the two preschool-related birthday parties Riley attended this month.

Each parent who asked Ms. Sarah, the school's headmistress, about the reason for the change received a slightly different explanation. Riley didn't change teachers, but all of his friends moved on to the next class. He was sad about that but he liked his teacher, so we didn't make any waves.

Still, I decided to speak with Ms. Sarah last week to make sure Riley was proceeding along the kindergarten prep track on schedule. She checked his school list on the computer, noted our school preferences, and assured me that he was doing fine. Lo and behold, we were notified on Monday that Riley was advancing to the next class with his friends.

Chris and I attended an hour and a half long parent informational meeting at the school last night regarding the classroom upheaval. Long story short, the school had some academic-based reasons for the change and some personnel-based reasons. We spent a good deal of time listening to parental concerns triggered by the changes, but hopefully the drama is over.
